La Vall d’Uixó, involved in Life Low Carbon Feed
04 of April of 2018

The Life Low Carbon Feed initiative, funded by the European Union, will develop technologies to reduce gas emissions by transforming citrus and rice waste into a new animal feed.

The environmental concern of La Vall d’Uixó has been constant in recent years, and it has taken part, together with Valencia City Council, in initiatives such as Life Ecocitric and Life Ecorice. Now, both consortia have joined forces again, together with other entities such as the Europa Scarl Area, the Polytechnic University of Valencia, the Foundation of the Valencian Community for a low carbon economy, Uniproca Sociedad Cooperativa and the local company Airatec, and this new project has been conducted with the coordination of the Union of Farmers and Livestock Breeders.

An initiative whose goal is to demonstrate new methods and innovative practices to perform the effective recovery of agricultural, citrus and rice waste and convert it into a new animal feed capable of reducing CH4 emissions in ruminants, thus mitigating climate change in agriculture and livestock breeding

Jorge Garcia, Councillor for Economic Promotion from La Val d’Uixó explains that, thanks to Low Carbon Feed, it will be possible to demonstrate “the technical and economic feasibility of the production of a new feed for goats based on agricultural waste which, until now, has been burnt”. To do so, “its acceptance and viability in the market will be validated against its competitors in terms of quality and price, because the studies conducted are positive”.
